# Atuin

> Atuin, shell history: searchable, per folder, and free of secrets.

Atuin replaces the shell’s history file with a database you search on Ctrl+R. It remembers the folder, the exit code and how long each command took, so finding "that docker command I ran in this repo last week" takes a second.

## On the workstation

- Installed by the `atuin` formula; its config comes from the config repo and its theme from `assets/theme/dot_config/atuin`.

- Commands that look like they hold a secret are never saved.

- With `atuin login`, history syncs between your Macs, end-to-end encrypted; without it, it stays on this machine.
